Scientists and engineers have been toiling on quantum computing systems for decades with only limited success. While the hardware has become much more capable, there are still some fundamental problems in processing and accessing data in quantum systems. Now, a new study from Imperial College London may have moved us closer to a quantum future. For the first time, researchers have been able to transmit quantum data between two machines and read the output. This could be the first step toward an ultra-secure, ultra-fast quantum internet.
