Researchers and practitioners in the fields of biomedicine and biotechnology have long been interested in the possible therapeutic benefits of shark skin. Despite the fact that shark skin doesn't have any magical healing properties, shark biology has been the subject of much research to examine the possible uses of shark skin for wound healing and tissue regeneration.
Now, a new study is seeking to research these healing properties for potential implementation in medical products.
One reason for this interest in shark skin is driven by the fact that some shark species have been found to have skin with natural antibacterial properties. These characteristics may lessen the chance of wound infection by preventing or inhibiting the growth of dangerous bacteria on the skin's surface.
