Materials engineering research and development can open new possibilities for the creation of novel devices, fabrics and other items. Recent efforts by scientists at ETH Zurich have led to the production of the thinnest substance able to be fabricated with technology, according to a news release.

The substance devised and fashioned by the ETH Zurich team is composed of graphene, the high-potential material that has been making major waves within the scientific community for years. Now, researchers have successfully created a membrane with the super-thin compound that is more minute than a nanometer, and 100,000 times smaller than the width of a human hair, the release revealed.
