Highly classified research is being carried out by the Pentagon's research division DARPA into the newly discovered state of matter called “time crystals”.
The term time crystals have long been associated with science fiction – sounding like something from Dr Who.
And sci-fi fans might be quite excited to hear the top flight of US military research is now probing “time crystals" in a classified project.
But in reality, time crystals are unlikely to hold the key to time travel – but instead may trigger major breakthroughs in new forms of super computers.
Time crystals are made up of atoms which are constantly spinning, and were for a long-time theorised to be impossible.
It is unknown what the US military wants with the strange phenomena which were only even considered to exist in 2011.
